TY girls practice their debating skills

We were delighted to host this week a team of Concern debating mentors who held Workshops throughout the day on Tuesday for all our TY students on the skills necessary for debating and public speaking. This year, we entered the annual Concern Senior Debating competition, which focuses on debating issues of social justice and equality around the world. We would like to thank the Concern team for kindly visiting us, encouraging the girls to get involved in debating, and we look forward to many of our students developing their skills in this important field into the future. Teacher: Mr McKee.

On Friday 12th February, a number of first years took part in a writing competition. They each prepared a 'love' themed poem or story to read out to the group and there were some fantastic and imaginative entries. Three of our musically talented first years also sang beautiful love songs to finish off a lovely lunchtime, these were: Holly Moran, Kaitlin Armstrong Smith and Kally Lynch. Congratulations to the three winners of the writing competition pictured: Lia Mc Namara, Lucy Smith and Sophie Hamilton. Thank you to our judges, fifth year students, Aoife Sherwin and Nicole McEntee.

Each first year English class is attempting to promote literacy throughout the school. Rang Aaron have created a Literacy Wall in the canteen to entice the student body to engage with Literacy, even during lunch time! Well done to all the girls for all the hard work they have put in over the past three weeks.
