Wellbeing Week 2023
YSI Finalists - Rang ÓisínCongratulations to 4Oisín who have been shortlisted for the Young Social Innovators of the Year Ireland Awards 2023. The project ‘Safe Farm, Less Harm’ was selected out of hundreds of YSI teams from all over Ireland to pitch to the Den panel where they received €350 to develop their project. They also travelled to the TLT in Drogheda before Easter to pitch to a panel of judges. ‘Safe Farm, Less Harm’ has been shortlisted along with 35 other schools across Ireland. Rang Oisín and their teacher Ms. O'Brien will travel to Croke Park on the 2nd of May to pitch their project in the final. We wish them the best of luck!

Ladies Gaelic FootballLeinster Final here we come! Congratulations to the Eureka Senior Gaelic Football team on a hard fought victory over Ballymahon Mercy Secondary School. Concern Debates |
Well done to Róisín Murtagh and Lúcia Keane who participated in the Soroptomist Public Speaking Competition today in St. Oliver’s College Drogheda. Róisín spoke about people and human rights, while Lúcia spoke about partnership and empowerment of women. Both speeches were thought provoking, engaging and very well researched.
Congratulations to Lúcia Keane who was successful in winning this round of the competition. Lúcia will represent Eureka in the regional heat of the competition in January and we wish her the best of luck. Thanks to teachers: Ms. Igoe and Mr. Lynn. |
Well done to 6th-year students Róisín Murtagh, Cara Deignan, Sanchia Bristow, Alana Hall and Lauryn Byrne who took part in round 2 of the Concern Debates against Tallaght Community School. They proposed the motion 'Climate activists must give up meat.' The 6th-year students spoke very well and were meticulous in their research - a very impressive debate! We wish them all the best in their preparations for their upcoming round 3 debate. Teachers: Ms. Igoe and Mr. Lynn.

Basketball
Under-16 panel who defeated St Vincent’s, Dundalk in the semifinal today on a scoreline of 37 - 18. They have qualified for the final of the North Eastern Division which will be played on the 29th November and they have also qualified for the last 16 of the All-Ireland series. Teacher: Mr. Cornally.

Samhain Festival - TY Young Chef of the Year
A massive congratulations to our 1st Place winners, Dayna McGoohan and Evie Oates who cooked in this mornings 'TY Young Chef of the Year' Competition. They presented a beautiful chicken & brocolli pie served with garlic baby potatoes, a side salad and a homemade vinaigrette. Their dessert was a delicious homemade apple tart, served with homemade custard and vanilla ice-cream! Well done also to our other team, Laura Potter and Sorcha McBride, who also done us so proud this morning with their amazing dishes. Our winning team will now cook in the Regional Final in Cavan Institute next May and we cannot wait! Well done also to Orla Cunningham and Ava Callery who helped prepare the dessert for the Long Table Dinner on Saturday as part of the Samhain Festival in Kells.
On Monday 14th February we will be hosting 'Red Day' in support of the Irish Heart Foundation. If they wish, students may wear an item of red along with their school uniform, an accessory item e.g. scarf, hat, socks. Donations of €2 will be collected at Tutor time. There will also be a raffle and prizes given out during the day including canteen vouchers and a fit bit watch. Each student will be given a heart-shaped lollypop and a raffle ticket, for their €2 donation. These funds will be donated to the Irish Heart Foundation in memory of Susie Dunne, (former secretary) R.I.P.

Over the past number of weeks, students have been busy learning the basics of CPR through their PE lessons. CPR is a simple skill that can help save a life. Last year there were more than 5000 cardiac arrests, 70% of which happened in the home. @Irishheart_ie
