Women in Politics - IWD 2020
In advance of International Women's Day on Sunday, Eureka hosted a very successful 'Women in Politics' event in the school last Thursday to highlight the positive contribution that women are playing in public life. We were delighted to welcome a number of female County Councillors including Cllrs Sarah Reilly, Gillian Toole, Maria Murphy, and Annie Hoey. All four Councillors spoke to our students about how they got involved in politics and the key role they play in their respective communities. Students involved were from Ms. Cunningham and Ms. Hickey’s 5th Year Politics and Society classes. The format was panel discussion and students actively engaged with the public reps on all issues ranging from housing to health to how to encourage more women to put themselves forward for election. Students were greatly encouraged and inspired by what they heard and we would like to sincerely thank all for giving their time so generously. We wish to thank Meath County Council for organising the event with the school and to Sinead Brassil of LMFM who was a brilliant MC on the day. Teachers: Mr. McKee, Ms. Cunningham, and Ms Hickey.
