​This Helpline is provided courtesy of the National Parents' Council in association with the Irish Independent, Eircom and supported by the Department of Education & Skills. The Institute of Guidance Counsellors are employed to provide qualified guidance counsellors to give advice and support to both students and their parents.


Parenting the Screenager - Richard Hogan

​Richard Hogan, Clinical Director of the Therapy Institute, will gave a talk for parents of teenagers at 7.30pm on Monday 11th September. He is the author of the best-selling book, “Parenting the Screenager, a practical guide for parents of the modern child”. He utilises many fascinating case studies from his years of experience to help parents understand strategic approaches to their teenager’s mental health issues. These strategies developed by Richard over his years working with teenagers are some of the most significant and progressive approaches to adolescent behaviour in recent times. He has a particularly progressive approach to building levels of communication in relationships.


Study Skills Ireland: How Best Your Child Can Be - Parents' Evening

​Enda O'Doherty from Study Skills Ireland will give a seminar for Parents on "How Best Your Child Can Be". Parents/ guardians of ALL years are welcome to the school on Tuesday 11th October for a 7.30 pm start.

The seminar will address issues such as:
· How much study should my child do?
· How can I get them motivated?
· What should I do at exam time?
· What can I do to help as a parent?
These and a multitude of questions will be answered on the night. A ninety-minute live presentation, followed by questions and answers for parents. An inspiring and highly entertaining presentation using state-of-the-art computer graphics. Learning and laughter are at the core of this professional presentation.

The Parents' Council arranged a very successful evening on 26th February with Enda Murphy, author of "Five Steps to Happiness" and co-author of "Flagging the Screenager".
