A long-term solution to the Organ Donation Crisis
The winning project “Bring Organ Donation into Education” is well underway. The students involved are in the process of designing and producing an organ donation teaching pack that will be distributed nationally to every secondary school in the country by organ donation week in March of next year. As a result of this project young people will now be educated about organ donation in secondary school and given the option to become a donor. They will also be capable of making an educated decision on the matter when applying for their driving licence. Statistics show that that 90% of Irish people are in favour of organ donation but only 30% ever do anything about becoming a donor. The “Bring Organ Donation into Education” project has the potential to overturn the current statistics. Over time this will result in reducing organ donor waiting lists and saving people’s lives.
