Comhghairdeachas and well done to Aedín & Clíona Durcan.The girls competed in the Sean nós singing competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. They had to win out of county and province to get to the All-Ireland. Aedín won the 15-18 category and Clíona won the 12-15 category. Sean nós singing is old style traditional singing in Irish where they tell a story through the song. We are extremely proud of their achievements.

Four members of the Green Schools Committee attended the First Green School of the Year awards in the Hyatt Centric Hotel, Dublin. The school was awarded their 8th Green Flag, "Global Citizenship Marine" and was the east and midlands regional winners. This year there were over 700 Green Flags awarded in the country. Thank you to all the members of the committee for their hard work throughout the past 2 years. Green Schools Co-ordinator Mr. Murphy.

ECO-UNESCO Royal Dublin Convention Centre. Caoimhe Mynes, Bronwyn Corcoran and Eve Duffy won the Climate Change Senior category for their project Eco-Friendly Adventures. This focused on making an original board game aimed at teaching young people and their families about methods to help combat climate change. This project has reached over 270,000 people. The girls worked very hard to win this award and we are very proud of them. Mentors Mr. Murphy and Flor.

A huge thank you to John and Christopher Gilsenan of CC's Unlimited in Kells for sponsoring hoodies for TY and 5th year students travelling to Paris this weekend. Merci mille fois! The girls will spend 4 days in the French capital, visiting the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre Museum, Disneyland, and many other cultural and tourist attractions. Three students from 5th year attended the 10th Annual CEIST Student Leadership Conference today in DCU - St. Patrick’s Campus. Megan Lynch, Adrianna Prancane and Orla Cunningham attended various talks and workshops throughout the day which focused on student leadership. Teacher: Ms. O’Brien.

Massive congratulations to Lorna O'Neill for winning the Literary and History Society's Gender Minorities Speech competition at DCU tonight. Finalists from all over the country delivered some fantastic efforts but Lorna's speech was chosen as the victor for both its gripping content and her eloquent delivery. Teacher: Mr. Lynn.

Congratulations to Third Year students Bronwyn Corcoran, Eve Duffy and Caoimhe Mynes who have qualified for the Final of the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist competition on Wednesday 15th May in the Convention Centre in Dublin. Teacher: Mr. Murphy.

U-14 Gaelic Football Finals |
Massive congratulations to the 1st Year Basketball Team on winning all 3 matches in the All Ireland Playoffs. They beat teams from Castleknock, Loughrea and Kilcullen. The team now travel to the National Basketball Arena for the All Ireland Semi Finals against Kanturk, Co. Cork next Thursday the 25th of April. A superb team who have gone from strength to strength this year.
Best of luck to the 2nd year Basketball team who are playing in the All Ireland Playoffs in Eureka on Tuesday the 23rd of April. They will face teams from Belfast, Clare and Roscommon throughout the day. We are all so proud of this brilliant group of girls. Coach: Mrs. Wright. |

Congratulations to Layla Musolo (2nd Year) who is the winner of the Dove Poster competition. The aim of the competition was to spread confidence amongst students regarding how they view their bodies. On Monday 11th December our choir performed Christmas Carols for shoppers in Christchurch Cathedral Dublin, and on Wednesday 13th December, we held our Annual Christmas Enterprise Day which is run in memory of former deputy principal, Gabrielle Moran, and is sponsored by the Pebble Foundation Project.There were four judges on the day: Valerie Moran - Founding Director of eCOMM Merchant Solutions and Bective Stud, Anthony Gorman - Founder of Anthony's Wooden Crafts and Paul and Trish Moran - Brother and Sister of Gabrielle Moran, and sponsors of the event. Think Languages
Congratulations to Fifth Year students, Ava Callery, Lucía Keane, Daisy Gernon and Jodie Loughran who won their Spanish debate tonight against Coláiste Pobail Setanta in St. Benildus College, Stillorgan, Dublin. The topic was AI - Artificial Intelligence. Lucía captained the team and also won the award for Best Speaker. Debating a complex topic like AI through Spanish is no easy task! The girls put a lot of work into their speeches and rebuttals, so we are very, very proud of their achievements. The Debating Blitz was organised by the Association of Teachers of Spanish in Ireland.

To mark World Children's Day, young people were given a platform to talk about their rights and the issues that matter to them. Lucía's chosen topic was vaping. Eureka welcomes Richard Hogan on Monday 11th September - ALL welcome!
Richard Hogan, Clinical Director of the Therapy Institute, will gave a talk for parents of teenagers at 7.30pm on Monday 11th September. He is the author of the best-selling book, “Parenting the Screenager, a practical guide for parents of the modern child”. He utilises many fascinating case studies from his years of experience to help parents understand strategic approaches to their teenager’s mental health issues. These strategies developed by Richard over his years working with teenagers are some of the most significant and progressive approaches to adolescent behaviour in recent times. He has a particularly progressive approach to building levels of communication in relationships.

Thirty students participating in the GAISCE awards travelled to Glendalough for their Adventure Journey where they embarked on a 25 km hike and stayed overnight in the Glendalough International Hostel. They will receive their awards at the TY Graduation ceremony on Thursday Night. Well done!

Safer Internet Day (SID) is an EU-wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. The internet is an integral part of our lives, providing fantastic opportunities to learn, create and connect, but the online world also creates challenges.
Parents/ Guardians are encouraged to have open and regular conversations with their children about the internet. To talk to them about the benefits and the risks, but also to listen to what their child has to say and to learn about their life online. Research consistently shows that many children do not tell if something goes wrong online. Having conversations with your daughter is one of the most effective ways of ensuring that they have a safe and positive experience, and to help them to feel comfortable coming to you if they encounter an issue. There are lots of resources available on Webwise.ie and on the Webwise social media platforms to help educate us on our digital lives. In Eureka, the Webwise Team, led by the Safer Internet Ambassadors and in conjunction with the Wellbeing Team, is hosting several events during the week, including presentations, peer learning and a poster competition with the theme “Together for a Better Internet”. | ||

Eureka Girls Win Garda National Youth Award
The students of the TY YSI project ‘Never Home Alone’ were given tremendous recognition last night in the Headfort Arms Hotel Kells by being awarded winners of their category in the Garda National Youth Awards for County Meath. The students developed a 10-week programme last year involving senior citizens from our local community to help combat loneliness and social isolation. Students are very grateful for all the support and encouragement they have received to date. Teacher: Mr McKee

Congratulations and well done to the Public Access to Law team who competed in the prestigious Empire Mock Trial Competition in New York over the weekend. They were placed 2nd in the 'Best International School' category, only missing out by one point! Very well done to Crea Shine who was the 2nd highest placed attorney of the entire competition and won an award for her outstanding achievement. Thanks to all involved for their commitment, including their teacher Mr. Fahy and Edel & Elaine Traynor.
TY visit Áras an Uachtaráin 2018
TY students were invited to visit Áras an Uachtaráin on Thursday 20th September, to view the presentation of Credentials by new Ambassadors to Ireland. They also met President Michael D Higgins and received a guided tour of the state rooms within Áras an Uachtaráin and were offered light refreshments in the state dining room.
