An exhilarating weekend was had by all debaters as the Parisian L’École Massillon armada descended on Eureka for our third Wolfe Tone Debating Competition. Eureka Secondary School was also delighted to welcome fellow Royal County plaintiffs, St. Ciaran's Community School and St. Patrick's Classical School for the vocal volley. The competition was adjudicated by a high-profile panel of judges led by Kells' own Minister of State Thomas Byrne.
After a fiery few hours of dispute and defence, both Eureka and Massillon shared the spoils of four motions each with St. Patrick's championing two rooms and St. Ciaran's taking the gold in our senior debate. Minister Byrne closed the event commending all participants' passion and persuasion.
We would like to add a special thank you to fellow organisers Maeve Jennings and Evi Ferenduros along with St. Patrick's and St. Ciaran's teachers Róisín Barry and Nessa Mc Donagh. We would also like to offer a huge thanks to all Eureka staff for their valiant efforts on the day.
Well done to all. According to the judges, there were very close calls. The most important thing is taking part!
Congrats to all the winners: Eureka Team Winners were:

Art in EurekaThis week 5th-year art students continued with their collaborative sculpture project, with artist Brian Synnot. They progressed in the next step of their sculpture by using the plaster cast they made last week as a mould to make their sculptures head using clay. This clay mould was then covered by latex to create a mould that can be used multiple times. Students also explored the casting process by making casts of their hands. Brian also installed a second temporary sculpture of a dinosaur in our courtyard as a companion to Briano the lonely Dino!!

Catholic Schools Week 2025
This year's theme for Catholic Schools Week is “Alive in Christ”. Reflecting on this theme, Catholic schools will explore what it means to be fully alive as a human being – living life to the full in Christ. Sensitive to the age appropriateness of the various classes and years, the theme will explore how we exist for one another in Christ, building from the wellbeing of the individual, extending the notion of true wellbeing to others, to our families and communities, and to The Other, in God. The theme will mediate on hope, the true purpose and meaning of human life, and, in the more senior years, on true freedom.
